Loyalty programs are big business generating in excess of US$180bn revenue p.a. worldwide. In Australia, the Qantas & Virgin programs are estimated to be valued at $6bn & $2bn respectively despite their real value to Consumers & Businesses being limited.
Almost every Australian is a member of at least one loyalty program, earning non-transferable points that are hard to manage, difficult to redeem, and don’t give them a lot of value when they do. The points are often pointless.
