Birchal was born from a simple but powerful idea: everyone should be able to invest in the brands they believe in. In 2017, as Australia prepared to legalise crowd‑sourced funding (CSF) for private companies, Birchal saw a chance to reshape the way capital is raised.

So… where did “Birchal” come from?
Birchal takes its name from early investor John Birchall, whose philosophy of backing promising ideas helped shape ours. When choosing our name, we wanted something that honoured that inspiration but still felt fresh, modern, and uniquely ours. So we lopped off the final “L” - partly for distinctiveness, partly because the domain name was free. (In the startup world, that counts as destiny.)
The name also echoes the birch tree, one of the first species to take root after disruption, known for resilience, regeneration, and creating the conditions for new growth. That symbolism sits at the heart of what we do. We’ve built a platform where ambitious companies can plant an idea, nurture it with community support, and grow into something stronger with every investor who joins them. In the same way birch trees pave the way for new ecosystems, we’re here to help founders build businesses that stand tall, supported by the crowd beneath them.
