Top 20 Equity Crowdfunding Campaigns of 2022

The top 20 equity crowdfunding campaigns of 2022 have raised more than $1M each for innovative Australian startups, with new records being set again this year.

Birchal topped the list with the largest raise in 2022, hitting its maximum target of $3M within hours of offering shares via its own platform, with 595 investors taking up the offer.

Birchal’s raise was matched by agribusiness Neutrog, which also reached its maximum funding target of $3M over 36 days.

The fastest movers of 2022 were Your Mates Brewing Co, which set a new Australian crowdfunding record by reaching its maximum funding target of $2.5M in 1hr and 54 minutes, and the third biggest raise for the year.

Another fast mover was Black Hops who hit its $2.2M funding goal in a day. This compares to an average of 15 days on the market for Birchal’s top performers and an average 21 days on the market for all the top campaigns of 2022.

Of the eight companies that successfully achieved their maximum funding target for the year, six were hosted on BIrchal’s platform, while Equitise and OnMarket each had one fully funded result among the top 20 campaigns.

The biggest crowd pleasers by number of investors were Threadheads, which gained 2544 investors, raising $2.2M, followed by Drink West with 1145 backers pledging $2M. Two other top 20 equity crowdfunding campaigns gained over 1000 supporters, including Zorali with 1062 investors raising $1.2M and Your Mates Brewing Co with 1015 investors to reach $2.5M.

By category, Food and Beverage was the most popular, with eight campaigns on the top 20 list, followed by Sustainability with three top raises. Next, with two top results were the categories of Financial Services, Agriculture & Farming and Clothing

& Apparel, while Healthcare, Telecommunications and Consumer Goods each had one top performer.

Birchal’s dominant market share was also reflected in the list of top 20 crowdsourced funding campaigns of 2022, with 70% of campaigns being hosted on its platform, while Equitise hosted 20% (four campaigns) and both OnMarket and VentureCrowd hosted 5% (one deal) each.

Results were spread relatively evenly throughout 2022 with June standing out with the most results in a single month, including six of the top 20 crowd investment campaigns.
